On arrival in the UK a Border Force officer may check that you are here for the reasons you have stated. For more information about what you might expect on arrival in the UK please visit the UK Border Agency website. U.S. Immigration Policy

U.S. Immigration Policy contends that America has reaped tremendous benefits from opening its doors to immigrants, as well as to students, skilled employees and others who may only live in the country for shorter periods of time. But it warns that “the continued inability of the United States to develop and enforce a workable system of immigration laws threatens to undermine these achievements."
Directed by CFR Senior Fellow Edward Alden, the CFR-sponsored Independent Task Force on U.S. Immigration Policy reflects the consensus of a bipartisan group of eminent leaders in the fields of immigration policy, homeland security, education, labor, business, academia and human rights. Green card - what is it?

Green card is your ticket to obtaining a permanent US residence. It is one of the easiest way to immmirgate into the United States of America. An applicant is only required to be a native born in an eligible country and have high school education or equivalent experience. The green card applications are collected and processed by the State Department of United States of America, and the qualifying ones are shuffled by a computer and drawn randomly until a quota is reached. A successfully drawn green card application is considered winning and entitles the applicant to live and work in United States as an equal citizen. Every year US government hands out 50,000 of green cards.
Green Cards are employed by United States as an implementation of Diversity Visa Lottery programme with the purpose of making immigration to United States available to diverse cultural and ethnical groups in a balanced fashion. United States is a country of diverse nature, and green card helps to maintain divversity, which lays in the root of american way of life and economics.
While there are millions of green card applications submitted every year, most of them are disqualified for various technical reasons before they reach the lottery, even though the instructions for applying are simple. To avoid that, and save your time, we recommend using an immigration assistance agency. For a very modest fee, immigration assistance agencies will make sure that you filed all the details correctly, and then properly process, submit and track your applications.
Green cards are regulated under Diversity Immigrant Visa Program which is mandated by the Congress of Unites States every year under Immigration and Nationality Act Section 203(c), ammended by Section 131 of the Immigration Act 1990. This amendment establishes a new class of immigration called "diversity immigrants" and provides for an annual quota for diversity immigration.

How to immmigrate with green card into America

Immigration is a rather complicated process. While green card makes it easier for you, the overall process is not easy, although feasible.
In order to enter US border as an immigrant, you must obtain a visa. Visa is a legal document that certifies that you are authorized to enter United States for certain purpose. The green card visa is called Diversity Visa. If you win the green card lottery and pass the remaining checks, you will be able to obtain it. There are different types of visas, both immigrant and nonimmigrant. As an immigrant and a future american citizen, you will need the diversity visa - your immigrant permit.
The visas are issued by Immigration and Naturalization Service of United States. You can find out more about this government organization at their Internet web site. INS does not directly participate in green card lottery; winning the green card lottery simply means you are getting an opportunity to apply to INS for immigration on grounds of diversity immigration law.
There are permanent and temporary visas. Depending on purpose and expected extent of one's travel into United States, american laws specify which kind of visa should be granted to a foreign national. Notice that obtaining the green card visa does not make you a citizen of United States but a Legal Permanent Resident (which entitles you to all benefits of citizenship except for the right to vote). In order to become a citizen, you will have to wait for five years. During this period, your green card visa would serve you as a permanent permit to travel across US border. Nationals of certain "visa waiver" countries are entitled to enter United States border without need for a visa. They can simply present their passport.
It is very important to know that visas are applied for and issued through your consulate representative of United States. You can not obtain or require a visa when you are crossing the american border. Hence, you must obtain the visa before you actually enter the country.
You cannot apply for a visa when you arrive at a U.S. port of entry. Unless you're from a "Visa Waiver" country, you must obtain your visa at a U.S. consulate before you depart for the United States. If your plans change between the time you get a visa and the time you want to leave for the United States, you are required by law to go back to the consulate to obtain a new visa.
The application process for green card visa is not the same as the application process for green card lottery; it includes a lot of paperwork and interviews. US immigrations services will be verifying that you are not violating US immigration laws; for instance, that you are not a heinous criminal, a terrorist or otherwise unwanted by US officials. You will as well be interviewed at the border by the immigration inspector. You should abstain from lying or submitting incomplete information to any entity involved in your immigration application, as multiple mechanisms to prevent that are put in place by US immigration services and lying would put you in a very unfavourable light, up to the point of criminal prosecution or permanent loss of right of entry into United States.
As said above, you will most likely be questioned multiple times, at different stages of your immigration process and even after you receive your legal resident permit. Your bags might be searched. Do not by surprised or alarmed by it. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to have a lawyer represent you during your arrival or interrogations. If there are complications and you fail to provide clear and reasonable answers to the questions that the immigration services present, you might be sent into a specialized immigration court or deported back having your immigration permit cancelled. As long as you are careful with your paperwork, don't worry. There are always minor issues, they tend to happen, the immigration services are aware of it and they are considerate to it. The immigration regulations might seem too strict and even unfair to you, but they are necessary both for the security of United States and proper smooth operation of immigration services.
When you are questioned, your answers must be consistent, conscise, clear and in line with your previous answers. The authorities can ask you basically any question on the record. Answering questions dishonestly and untruthfully might cost you your green card.
Make sure that all papers you were required to have, as well as any additional documentation you believe might be helpful are valid, properly authorized and not outdated. Most importantly, make sure they are in place.
Be sure not to bring any potentially illegal or dangerous items or animals. Dress appropriately and behave politely and seriously.
Please understand that it is the nature of immigration officials to be suspicious and impatient. Immigration checks are the first line of defense of american liberty against external threats. Immigration officials aren't going to be friendly to you, but there's nothing personal in that; they get to handle thousands of people every month. The better prepared and calm you are, the less problems you're likely to run into.
The reason for such treatment and cautiousness is that the immigration authorities do not want to take a chance with anyone staying illegally. Unlike most other countries, United States doesn't have a single paper that unambigously identifies a person and must be carried at all times, such as ID or passport. Driver's licenses, foreign passports, resident permit green card and other papers can serve as a subtitute, but they aren't necessary for free movement in United States, so many illegal immigrants settle down. Incidentally, illegal immigrants are a major source of domestic crime in United states, and the immigration authorities are reluctant to allow anyone who might want to refuse leaving. Even though you are getting a green card, the immigration authorities will have to treat you with caution.

Green card benefits

Applying for the green card is simple and inobtrusive, but the benefits are tremendous. Winning in the green card lottery means that you and your family can live, work and have fun in United States of America. A green card opens you an opportunity that many people only live to dream of.
A green card means you will obtain a permanent residence permission, which allows you to freely live, work and move in any of 50 states. As a citizen, you will be entitled to equal and lawful employment by any employer on non-discriminating grounds. Permanent residence permit is a way to full citizenship and is no different from it except for the right to vote - the most sacred right of any american citizen that you as a holder of green card will be entitled to within 5 years since your immigration.
A green card also entitles you to all social benefits of being an american citizen, such as state sponsorship in education, research, taxation, social security and insurance, retirement and health benefits. You can legally own property, cars, firearms and other items that any other average american does.
A holder of a green card will be able to travel as an US permanent resident abroad. Modern green cards are valid for life time, whether you choose to apply for American citizenship or not.
Since 2004, green card applications are only available through an Internet website of the US State of Department and are not accepted by mail anymore. This is a definite improvement in the green card application processing. There were other changes in regulations that are more favourable for the green card applicant.
Green cards provide an excellent opportunity for anyone wishing to immigrate into United States and in time become a full flegded american citizen. The application is free if you try on your own (and very inexpensive if you do that via an agent) an doesn't require a lot of time and attention on your part. The chances of winning the lottery are great and the only sure way to missing the opportunity is not taking it. If you are seeking US citizenship or even thinking about considering it in the future, we recommend that you try your luck with the green card right now.
It is important to know that the internal regulations of Diversity Immigrant Visa Program disqualify participating countries if they sent more than 50,000 emigrants total over five last years. It means that the green card might not be available to you next year! In DV2005, for example, Russia was dropped from the list of eligible countries.

Why live in America with a green card?

The greenest card of them all, the green card gives you a key to the doorway into your own dreams. There's a reason why America is called the land of the free and the home of the brave, and the green card is your way into their home.
The truth is, people crave for American freedom. Everyone everywhere is badmouthing United States and their foreign policy all the time, whining about how americans impose their way of living on the rest of civilized world; but if anything, those who do mostly do it out of jealousy, and then probably run for the green card themselves. We can't possibly seek to blame them, as the human nature is inherently flawed and seeks for better life; and inevitably, most of those who want better life, while complaining about United States and Americans, and even hating the American green card policy, in the end watch American movies, live an American lifestyle and end up in America, being American and carrying the American beliefs.
Of course, living in America, by green card or not, has its disadvantages, but America is one of those countries where people actually do have power and can correct anything that bothers them, if they are actually up to it. This is why United States is called the land of opportunity; the American freedom presents you an opportunity (hell, even the green card by itself is an opportunity to the total strangers), and it is entirely up to you how you choose to use it.
Indeed, the green card is a wholesome opportunity and, if you are looking for a way to become an American, you should not miss it.
Living in America is both hard work and great pleasure. A relatively young country, it is the most thriving, most developing and richest nation on the face of Earth. If you are smart and willing, nothing can stop you in United States.
American life is very dynamic and challenged. Unlike similar tabloid classifieds, this one will be a real fun. Hard, indeed, but what did you expect when you immigrate to another country?
America is comprised of people of varying origins from many ethnicities. Many languages are spoken in United States by people of different cultures, skin colours and religions, so you will not be the first and not the last person to immigrate to United States and become an American citizen, whether by way of green card or not. America wants you to come over and that's why the green card immigration program exists in first place.
Despite criticizm and sometimes outright rage by haters of America, it is still the flagship of free life in our world, and focus of everyone's attention. Successful American businesses supply their products to every country in the world. America fights its enemies and loves its friends.

How to apply for green card

The green card applications are submitted to US Department of State website free of charge (winners will be charged a nominal processing fee). Green card applications are only available through online website form since DV2005 as opposed to previous years where the applicants were able to mail the Department of State. The green card application form is simple and can be filled out quickly; however, any deviation from strict regulations or multiple submission attempts will disqualify all submitted applications. Essentially, you only get one shot per year and you better get it right; more than 40 percent of applications are disqualified early because of submission mistakes. The Department of State maintains its applications website that opens within the first day of the application period (usually first or second week of November) and receives online green card applications for the period of time defined by law (normally a month or two)
No green card application submissions can be made before or after that date. Submissions on paper are not accepted. The green card application form must be filled completely, truthfully and accurately. Failure to adhere to the green card application form guidelines will disqualify the participant for the year.
The application form requires you to submit the following details: Full name, including last/family name, first and middle name, date of birth, gender, city of birth, country of birth, valid and up to date mailing address, optional e-mail address and phone number, marital status, list of unmarried children under 21. A recent photograph is also required. You will upload the photograph when you submit the form. See below for technical requirements for the photograph file.
If you are not native to an eligible country, you might fill a "Country of Eligibility" instead. This field allows you to claim nativity and thus country of eligibility of your spouse or parent. You must provide a conscise indication of such claim on the form.
If relevant, spouse and children information must be submitted with the same sort of details as the applicant's: full name, date and place of birth, gender, and photograph. See below for details on submitting information on your children.

Green Card Application

It is very important to fill the application correctly with most updated information and fulfill all the requirements (such as, for example, properly attaching a picture to the application which is a somewhat uneasy process for beginners). If you make even a smallest mistake that violates the regulations, your application would be disqualified.
There is a number of green card lottery specialist companies which dedicate their experience to making the application process safe and easy; they help you properly fill the application and make sure it complies with the requirements, submit it in due time, and hold your hand from the very first step until the moment you cross the border and become a legal permanent resident of United States.
We have checked a few of those companies that offer resgiter service to the USA Green Card Lottery also called DV 2005 or DV 2006 and found the most honest and helpful one which we are proud to recommend to our Internet visitors! If you are not willing to risk a year or two of immigration opportunity (and who does?), you might find our advice very comfortable. By all means, use the services that we have carefully chosen and verified and save yourself time, money and, most important, worry. It cost nothing to check if you can win a Green Card in the US Green Card Lottery in the green card lotter site.
